Zega: I was flipping through a 944 magazine when I came across this article featuring a stunning Indian beauty I had never seen before. I learned she is a model named Padma Lakshmi and she was the host on Bravo's reality show 'Top Chef'. The article was written to promote some new cook book of hers, but the whole time I was reading, my eyes couldn't help diverting back to the huge, 7-inch scar on her upper arm - and there was no mention of it anywhere on the page! I figured a scar like that had to be blurg-worthy, so I did a little digging and found a story, in her own words, of how it happened and what it is like to be a flawed model in an industry that worships perfection.

The accident happened on a Sunday afternoon filled with sunshine. I was fourteen years old and on my way back with my parents from a Hindu temple in Malibu. The traffic was quite heavy for a Sunday. I remember thinking how strange that was. Then there was a loud bang, and I looked out the windshield and saw nothing but the prettiest blue sky. I thought I was dreaming because I'd been nodding off, but then I realized we were part of that blue sky. Our red Ford Mercury sedan was airborne. Flying in a car felt like an exhilarating hallucination, an unbelievable ride that oddly remains one of the most beautiful images in my memory....
