Medal of Honor
From left to right, the Army, Navy/Marine Corps and Air Force medals

The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States government. It is bestowed on a member of the United States armed forces who distinguishes himself "…conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States…" Because of its nature, the medal is commonly awarded posthumously.

These are the stories of those who have received the Medal of Honor during the War on Terror.

Pay your respects, candy ass.

In March 2005, my friend Zim and I thought we would leave Turkey and go to northern Iraq. We were essentially kidnapped at the border by the Iraqi security services who drove us further in to the country and put us in a jail where we spent the best part of the next three weeks.

We crossed the border in search of cheaper accommodation. We never realized it would be free.

This is the conclusion to my story...

Yousiff, the Iraqi boy, is a badly burned victimSource: CNN.com

Five-year-old Youssif is scarred for life, his once beautiful smile turned into a grotesquely disfigured face -- the face of a horrifying act by masked men. They grabbed him on a January day outside his central Baghdad home, doused him with gas and set him ablaze.

It's an act incomprehensibly savage, even by Iraq's standards today. No one has been arrested and the motive remains unknown.
